We are very pleased to announce the commencement of our rewards program. The Lowfoot concept is simple: Connect your smart meter. Reduce your electric use. Get rewarded.

All members who reduce their electricity consumption during the month of September to below or equal to their Lowfoot target, which is 10% below their baseline, will receive a cash payment based on the following price schedule (all figures in Canadian Funds):

Consumption = $0.04 a kilowatt hour
OnPeak Demand = $0.80 a kilowatt
MidPeak Demand = $0.60 a kilowatt
Carbon Reduction Credit = $12 a metric tonne

Lowfoot uses the following to calculate carbon emissions in Ontario: 1,000 KWH generated produces 0.30 metric tonnes of carbon emissions.

Here is an example in plain English:

A Lowfoot member who reduces their usage 250 KWH’s below the baseline and meets their Lowfoot target can expect to earn the following:

  • $10 for KWH reductions
  • $0.90 for Carbon reductions
  • plus additional earnings for managing their demand effectively.

All payments to members who achieve their goals will be distributed via PayPal Send Money during the second week of October after we audit the results to ensure accuracy.

Lastly, this is an experiment. Lowfoot, Inc. will be funding these rewards directly. On the first day of each month we will announce the prices and other conditions (if any) that we add from what we learn in the previous month.

If you want to join Lowfoot and participate in this great experiment, there’s still time to become a Lowfoot Pioneer; read this to find out how. Public registration is coming soon, so follow us on Twitter or Facebook to find out when.

Rewarding someone for doing something right. Empowering people to make a change. That’s what Lowfoot is about.
